If you’re lucky enough to be in possession of a student ID card entrance is very cheap (EUR 2-4) and you are guaranteed a hilarious night out. It’s not a place to hang out and look cool in, it’s not a place to sample the hottest DJ talent in town this week, nor a place to spot stars.

Melkweg (‘Milky Way’ in English) is an Amsterdam institution. The organisation itself encompasses a club, cafe bar, gallery and theatre. You will find art and music side by side in this cultural ‘hub’.

Melkweg is on the Lijnbaansgracht behind Leidseplein in Club Alley just past Sugar Factory. Late on in the night, the line outside tells you something though: Melkweg is a firm favorite with locals and visitors whatever the night.
