De Bekeerde Suster is a large airy beer and ‘eetcafe’ (restaurant cafe) just off Nieuwmarkt. It’s particularly appealing as it is also a brew pub; yes, they make their own beers on the premises. It’s owned by the Beiaard Group, who also a popular bar on the Spui and make the very delicious Witte Ros.

Brouwerij ‘t IJ named after the IJ; the water behind Centraal Station that splits Amsterdam in half. Arrive in the afternoon and you might catch a coach load of tourists arriving for a drink!

Why does this place attract coach parties? Well, it is a real brewery for a start, so it does tours and sampling. It is also one of Amsterdam’s two windmills, there is only one other in the city so if you want to windmill spot, there’s nowhere better.
